East London is a bustling town conveniently situated in the heart of the Sunshine Coast and the Wild Coast routes and is the only river port in South Africa. It lies 1000 km from Cape Town and between the Nahoon River in the North and Buffalo River down in the south. Affectionately called ‘Buffalo City’ by the locals, it is here, that there are plenty of recreational activities to be enjoyed. The aquarium is also home to many different fish varieties as well as turtles. Other places of interest are The Queens Park Zoo, The Ann Bryant Art Gallery, The Gately House Museum, The German Settlers Memorial and Orient Beach.
Orient Beach is named after a Russian ship that was wrecked on the coast. In 1907. It is also the closes beach to the city. This beach is an ideal spot for relaxing and offers a childrens playground, a tidal pool, a restaurant and theatre as well as changing facilities.
For a spot of angling and surfing why not visit Nahoon Beach, only 8km from the city centre and situated on the Nahoon River Bank
